    G0704 vs BF20

    Hi guys,

I've seen the Grizzly g0704 also labled as a BF20, are they the same machine? Im shopping for cnc kits and amazon doesnt have any g0704 kits but under bf20 they have all the ballscrews mounts etc. Wondering if its the same thing and if I could buy the cnc parts for a BF20 andfit on my g0704

G0704 and BF20L machines are basically same and kits should fit either. If my memory serves me correctly, the BF20L has more travel in the X & Y that the BF20. The BF20L is the same X/Y as the G0704 I believe. A little research should confirm.

The BF20 comes in two variants. One has a shorter table than the other. I believe the 20L and the G0704 to have the same table dimensions.

The machines are very similar, but not the same. A kit designed for a G0704 will not fit a BF20L without modification. The hole patterns are different, the x-axis ball screw mount is different, and the other thing I noticed is that the BF20 has heavier/thicker castings.

The 704 base is thicker than the PM-25.

I weighted both mills part by part and they are the same. The difference is the base is shorter on the 704 and thicker.

    Re: G0704 vs BF20

The only thing I had to do with the kit I bought for my BF20 was elongate the mounting holes for the X axis plates, fettle the X axis ballscrew nut mount (it was a while ago and I was just recovering from pneumonia so details are a bit sketchy) and trim a bit off the underside of the table....apart from that it was pretty easy.
Comparing photos of the table of the G0704 and BF20 the BF20 has the thicker castings.

Tho if you want an R8 spindle for the BF20 the Grizzly bits do fit.
