    Need help with vmc760

I am new to the forum. I just got my 1996 Bridgeport VMC760 22 under power. Every thing works but I do have a (spindle not up to speed in time) alarm. The spindle oscillates for about 5 sec. Any pointers would be great. I have no problem getting my hands dirty. Thanks

Is it possible that the spindle is cold and needs to warm up a bit before you bring it up to cutting speed? Maybe lubrication?

Since its a new to you install, I'd guess incoming power issue or possible reversed phase depending on spindle drive type and control.

I have 208 3 phase. I have not check the phase rotation with a gauge yet. I think it is correct because the tool carousel is depending on correct rotation and that work as it should. I can not get the spindle to spin at all with any command. M03 or M04 and if I give it M19 It will just continue to oscillate but will not alarm out with a M19. Thanks

208 could be the problem. Is the machine wired for 230? Is there a transformer that has different taps to adjust the voltage to the spindle?

yes there is a transformer with a 200-210 post.

    That might fix it.

The spindle load is 160% when it is oscillating. Does it have a brake on the spindle? The spindle spins free by hand.

A few things cause this, but if you keep just trying to start it, you will blow the spindle drive, if not already.

You have yet to give info on control type, spindle drive type etc, so kinda hard to help.

    1. Voltage
    2. Spindle trying to start in the wrong direction
    3. Velocity Feedback system for the spindle/motor not working.
    4. Blown transistors in the spindle drive.

I have wires connected to the 200-210 voltage tap already.

Just an update my spindle logic board was the problem. I did notice something if you stop the spindle with the stop key it will alarm out. (spindle not up to speed in time). M19 will orientate the spindle just fine. Any info on the would be great. Thanks

if spindle is oscillating a bit on orientation around encoder index flag m19 then parameters in bmdc may not tuned...correctly which gives not up to speed error < velocity sample rate etc.......><spindle gain> maxspeed etc or the 611 drive params can get messed if touching the simo drive

Thanks for the reply. I found that by spindle drift with the spindle command of 0 rpm was way off it was -18 RPM so I adjusted the spindle drive accordingly. Everything works perfectly now.
