    Motor VFD Power matching

I need to replace my 5.5KW VFD for a different unit.
I'm offered a 7.5KW VFD for the same price as the 5.5KW VFD.
The motor is 5.5KW. Can the 7.5KW VFD be used with my 5.5KW motor? Or is it better to replace with a matching unit?

No, you don't have to match them, a 7.5kW VFD will work perfectly fine for a 5.5kW motor (or even a 1.5kW motor as long as it has the same working voltage).

Read the manual for the VFD being offered.

You need to input the V/f curve for the spindle into the VFD parameters as well as setting the current limit.

Once you input those parameters it shouldn't be any problem whatsoever.

So do you have 3 phase power? Or is it a single phase to 3 phase VFD you're replacing?

And is the higher power one the same type (single to 3, or 3 to 3)? That could be a problem if it isn't.

Both VFD's are exactly the same. They are 3P. Only difference is 2kw
    Thanks for the help
