My old 408 will not start.
When I want to do the warm upp I get:

SPINDLE I/0 FAILURE

ATC works
X,Y, Works

Recieved this email from Gerber Service:


Open you spindle controller and turn everything on, it should say calling or call waiting on the display, do a motor warm up does the display change?
It should change to 100hz if you do a motor warm up from the keyboard.
Let me know if you get an error code.
But if it does not change at then yes you most likely are having an issue with the DUART card or cable that runs between the electrical box and the spindle controller box.

I've done that.
The cable is fine. The spindle controller only shows "call".
Ordered a new duart card. Will try that on Monday.
What kind of spindle controller do you have?

I can’t remember the name of the inverter.. I can run the spindle manually from the inverter.
Did you order a duart card from Gerber?
How much do they ask?

Yes, I ordered it from Gerber. $983.42
Do you know if I can get it from a different place?
I can run it manually from the inverter but I do not like that.
I hope the inverter should be reprogrammed.

I can see they sell em on amazon for $300-$400

I replaced the two Max251 CPD components on the DUART-card
Yesterday (about 20$) and now it works great again!!

The new DUART card has just arrived and it still doesn't work.
I'm afraid I will have to ship the inverter to get reprogrammed.

buy a new inverter. I have a 408 with the 7hp three phase spindle, this is the inverter i used, it is 220V single phase > 220V three phase. I do not know if it will suit yours, but i do think it will be cheaper buying a new inverter than sending the old back.

This is my old inverter, it still works but i cant use it because i dont have three phase at my house. Is it the same as yours?

How did you connect the new inverter? Is there a serial port in it or you hardwired it?

I'm pretty sure we have the same 7hp spindle, black and heavy.

i didnt wire it yet im still collecting the parts for the project. My Gerber was not working when i bought it so I have never worked with the original control panel.


I can sell you the original inverter for €100 if you like. . Are you sure its the inverter that is the problem?

Yes, I do.
I will check the parameters today.
The Gerber tech support emailed me the list of parameters for the sabre.

Updated the parameters.
No luck.
Checked the wire that goes from the CNC control box to the inverter with a meter, it reads 9 volts.

If I start the CNC machine without DUART card it doesn't show the error that the card is missing, but I think it should.

I can check the voltage on Monday.
My 408 didn’t give any error code if I disconnected the DUART-card either.
