    Comments/thoughts on MX4660 wiring

    Dear all,

I am getting around to wiring up my steel gantry CNC router.

Was hoping that someone would have a look at my wiring notes and provide feedback.

    Thanks

    Adam

    Re: Comments/thoughts on MX4660 wiring

I have nearly the exact same setup sitting here on my bench. I am worried about hooking up the driver without the power shunt... I have used it a few times but I have never hooked a dedicated Estop button on the MX4660 due to the many posts of blowing the drive from back voltage coming in from the motors. I have been using the estop function in mach 3.

Did you go with switching power units or a toroidal? my power supply has 2 80v 10000uF caps on the regulator and i think they will hold but I have put in a email to leadshine if I really need to implement the shunts.

    Hi.

    I have 2 switching units.

I did not get any feedback and have put this project on pause.

This may help, I was told 10,000uF caps are pretty big and may be a big current draw during start-up so some sort of in rush current protection may be needed.

As I understand you need either the caps or the shunt. The shunt is not cheap.

I have to say I'm a bit pissed at Leadshine after paying $400 for the driver and there is not a better solution that they provide.

All the best and look forward to hearing about what you end up doing.

    Adam
