Angry NEMA Drive on 3 axis mill

    Hi Forum,

environment - hobby setup (not commercial) I have a Sherline 2010 mill and i have placed in a cabinet which also has a basic flood system.

recently i had to replace an axis motor which had basically seized. I put this down to the flood egress into the motor. today I had another motor exhibiting the same symptoms and sure enough- caput.......

the flood director has a magnetic base which sits upon this stepper - does the magnet play any part in the problem ??? it seems odd the Y axis motor is the only one with the problem and this is where the magnetic base sits

    any pointers

Stepper motors are magnetic devices. The steps are achieved by turning one set of electro-magnets on and another set off; that drives the motor to the next fixed point in its rotation. I'm not sure why you decided to perch a powerful permanent magnet directly on your motor, but judging from your results, it wasn't a good idea. I'd suggest you find or provide another place to put it.
