Scotle 6040 - unable to spin and move axis at the same time!

    Hi All,

Due to personal circumstances I haven't been able to use my cnc machine for a year or so. When i last used it, it as fine! I went use it yesterday and I have an odd problem!

When I open mach3 and hit the reset button, sometimes I can only jog X+ and Y+. When I move the Z+ it suddenly all works and I can jog around all + and - with no issues. I can turn the spindle on in Mach3 and it spins up but when it’s spinning I cannot move the axis at all - as soon as I stop the spindle I can move all the axis again.

I tried to do a cut but the same thing happens, the spindle starts and then none of the axis move, I can see on Mach3 that it thinks it’s moving but it isn’t!

I almost feel as if it isn’t receiving enough power and cannot handle all the things it’s being asked to do but I have no idea if this would even happen!

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks

    Andy

With no power on the machine, can you all the axis over their full range easily? ( no binding? )
Are the stepper motors mechanically free? You will feel magnetic resistance. ( I've had bad bearings cause problems. )
Are all you connectors tight and clean?
All your ball screws and rails lightly lubed with light machine oil?
Open up your control box and physically check all your terminations to see they are tight. Give each one a little tug.

    Assume nothing......

Let us know how you go.
