    Just need some more help

First I want to thank all who have responded to my questions, It has helped a lot.

Now for my question. How can I control the z axis. When I press start the first thing that happens is the spindle moves up off Z zero so it can move to the first cut. If my project is less than 3/4 thick than I have no problem. But if I have a project that is 1 1/4 thick than the spindle comes up to far and hits the stops. How do I control how far the spindle comes up off of zero when I first press start.

    Thank You,

If this happens when you run a G-code program, it's probably something that's set somewhere in your CAM software. But since you don't indicate which software you're using, it's hard to say how you'd change it. It might be in the post-processor, or it could be somewhere else. Look for something that indicates a "safe height" or "tool change" position.

In vcarve go to toolpaths click on machine setup, go down to where it says rapid Z gaps above material, change the clearance number so it clears your material.Click image for larger version.
