I have a rotary phase converter that’s capable of running a total of 20 hp. According to the data plate, although it will handle a total of 20 hp, it will only start a maximum of a 7 1/2 hp three phase motor.

My dilemma is I want to run a milling machine that has a 15 hp spindle motor.
Considering the 7 1/2 hp limitation, they have to be considering motors that start under load, like compressors or pumps, etc.
Since my spindle motor would never start under any load I’m wondering if I could use this particular rotary phase converter on the milling machine.
Does anyone have any experience relative to my question?
Thanks,
Chuck
