Question Lathe - Carbon-Carbon Brake Disc Machining, Any ideas?

    Hello All,

I on the hunt for any information regarding machining Carbon-Carbon brake discs, used primarily in Motorsport.
If anyone has done this before, probably a little niche, any info regarding Insert coatings and geometry also feeds and speeds - were talking CNC turning here.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Carbon-Carbon composite is the toughest, most heat resistant material we have on this planet and off... This is the stuff they put on the leading edges of the hypersonic SCRAM-jet.

Are you sure you have to put it in a lathe? Might be a job for EDM.

A EDM would not be suitable to machine this material, it can be Milled Drilled or Turned without to many problems
