I have been cutting out and engraving aluminum parts on my cnc router now for a couple of years. As I expand my product offering I am ending up milling out more of my new designs on the manual Bridgeport mill. I would like to trade up to a cnc vmc but know nothing about what brand is good or bad, what to consider or stay away from. I am looking to find something in decent shape that I can use for a while without too much repair as I don't really have the time to be rebuilding anything. I am posting my current watch list from ebay hoping someone will chime in with a few comments or suggestions. I am an older guy who hasn't worked in a machine shop since the 80's, until starting my own a few years ago, (don't worry I am a one man band) I recognize some of the names but have no idea of quality or which ones to even consider.

The prices on my watch list are all over the place, just trying to get an idea of what things are going for. I realistically would like to spend about $15k but have lower priced machines and higher priced machines on the list for comparison.

I realize I am not giving anyone too much information to go on, my parts are small enough to fit on any of the tables listed in the list. 4 or 5 axis would be great for future product development but I don't think I can afford either at this time.

Like I said I am just looking for folks opinions on the brands so I know what to stay away from.

I too have my eye on that custom high rpm hsk Haas lol. That would suit my needs nice. I have a 2000 CINCINNATI machine and it’s nice. Rapids at 1400ipm and can keep up with modern dynamic toolpaths. You also can add an Ethernet card without paying for the upgrade to transfer code to the Machine

And you also can add a Renishaw wireless probe which Haas control has to be 07 or newer I believe.

I was wondering about that high speed haas. They list the rpm as 25000. That is not fixed is it? I would think it is variable up to 25000, am I correct?

Yeah I’m sure but your not gonna the power down low. It’s peak power is probably from 18-25k rpm

I was thinking about the Clausing Kondia today, it is somewhat local so I can go see it and a lot cheaper than the high speed haas.

I’ve never seen one of those. But I can say if your switching from Mach to the Cincinnati A2100 control it’s not too hard. Also the arrow has thk 35mm linear rails where the other machines generally have boxes ways.

I’m not saying it’s the same but setting tools and setting a simple work offset from the workpiece is easy once you get the hang of it. Everyone seems to love the A2100 control once they get the hang of it.

That's the kind of input I appreciate, those are the kinds of things I have no idea about. What kind of reliability could i expect from a 20yr old machine? I know it all depends on condition but will I be able to use it without sticking too much money in it?

Yea lol real controls are much different than Mach 3

What do you thinks about the 20yr. old Cincinnati? If in good condition will I be able to make decent parts with it? The age kind of puts me off.
