Need some direction-Problem solving new user

    Aloha everyone,
Running Smartshop II with Vcarve Pro9 software. Fully self taught over the last few months. Problem: processor does not seem to adjust for material thickness. The Material (Z) is correct in Vcarve, z Zero set to top, material thickness is 39.83 mm. Adjusted on the spoil board top the tool lengths. Cut profile is 3/8" depth but the bit dives into the block.
How should my troubleshot/problem flow work? Help from Laguna is practically non-existent and the manual is a joke. If my tool length is correct and my spoil thickness is correct, where do I go?

UPDATE - i just adjusted one of my tools to the top of the new material and it cut fine. So I have to measure my tools every time I change my material thickness? If / then will changing my Z Zero to the bottom then allow the post processor to adjust for the material thickness?
