I have a Gleason 125gh gear hobber and the X axis keeps faulting out. It gives various alarms, but the reason is always the same. There seems to be an issue with either the ball screw or the ball nut. The turkite looks good, the slides aren't marred up, the bearings at the servo end of the ball screw seem solid, yet we can't run the machine any higher than 25% without it faulting out. This ballscrew assembly is 5 years old. Anyone have any ideas what would cause this? I have enclosed a picture of the ballscrew. You can clearly see a discoloration in the grooves. Here's the kicker, that discoloration goes all the way to the end of the threads. There is no way possible for that part of the screw to even come within 2 inches of the ball nut due to hard stops. Any ideas? Thanks
