Just started using my first CNC router and using Vectric Aspire for my tool path generation etc. Just wondering what the general consensus is about where to locate the Z reference, top or bottom of your work piece.
Thanks,
Dalob

I don't think there is a "general consensus". People use whatever is more convenient for the particular situation.
For instance, when you engrave something, it may make more sense to reference on the surface of the part.
When you are cutting out a shape all the way down to the worktable, it may make more sense to reference on the worktable.
I've found it easier to Z Zero on the top of the material, but doing doubled sided projects, it's best to Z Zero off the bed. it centers your models, if you material is a little thicker than you put in the parameters, it could be off a little. going off the bed will be right on.
