Foam cutter XY using DC motors with encoders

Hello all, here is the story...

I started to build CNC foam cutter, since I got hold of some parts from old machines I would like to try using them...cutter will have 2 X axles and 2 Y axles. Trying to use Maxon DC motors with HEDS-6310 208 B encoders from Mydata TP9. After encoder there is board with 74HC368D. Power supply line to motor have symmetric linear filter. Can Arduino handle all this in combination with some cheap drivers(lets say L298N)...

    encoder pinout attached...

    any hints are welcome

I tested this code a few years ago. It works for very basic brushed motor control.

Just use multiple Arduinos/l298 and combine the step/direction lines.

This will control 2 or more steppers from the same pulse.
