In process: Machine Design. I'm Semi-New to CNC.

I'm designing (and hopefully building) my own 2 axis Plasma Cutter for home/hobby use. I can operate a CNC and own/operate several 3d printers. But this is my very first experience with a Plasma cutter.

I have a mechanical background but I have zero clue when it comes to setting up the electronics to make a CNC.....a CNC.

So, how do i choose and/or set up the controller/electronic portion of this build? I'm hoping there are plug and play controllers with 2D software to speak to off the shelf Nema Stepper motors...?

Work in progress, but the basic idea:

    X - 36", Y - 24"
    Guides are 2040 Aluminum Extrusion
    Frame is built from 2 x 2 x .188 Aluminum Angle
    Nema 17 Stepper Motors

The goal is to be able to cut up to .250" aluminum. Light weight, but rigid machine.

Anyone with info on purchasing the electronic side of building a CNC Plasma?
