    Standard linear motion conversion to linear rails.

    I've converted from the CNC Router Parts standard linear motion to linear rails and bearing blocks.

    I had a friend mill up two 1" aluminum interface plates that I used to attach the linear bearing blocks to the gantry uprights.

    Once the bearing blocks were mounted to the interface plates and the linear rails were installed, I worked on one side at a time. I removed the bolts holding the gantry upright to the CNC Router Parts linear bearing carriages and then removing the cold rolled steel.

    Installed the new linear rail, slide the interface plate on and bolted it to the gantry upright.

    I was also able to move the gear rack up to the top slot on the 80/20 1530 extrusion.

    Two things I neglected to consider...

    •The rail stops were too short and had to be redesigned.
    •The tensioning bracket wasn't supported. I ended up fabbing a new mount from angle iron.

    One benefit of doing this conversion is that I gained an additional 1 1/4" under the gantry.

    I used BLH25F bearing blocks and BLH25Rxxxx linear rail from Automation Overstock.

    did you convert both the x & y axis? how's it done on the Y axis? thanks

    I haven't done the Y axis yet.

    The standard CNC Router Parts setup has 2 - 2 1/2" pieces of cold rolled steel, top and bottom. I used one piece of 7" to increase rigidity and haven't quite figured out how to switch over to linear rails and still keep the 7" plate.

    I wasn't having any issues, it seemed to be working fine.

    That said, I've seen improvements in the quality of cut since the switch.

    Leave the 7inch plate in place and add the linear rail on top of it.

    What causes a lack of rigidity using the CNCRP skate bearing set up? If the bearings are properly tightened, where is the issue?

    When skate bearings are used like that, the outer race can flex. Linear bearings can carry thousands of pounds without deforming, which would destroy skate bearings
    Then there's the issue with flatness and consistency of thickness. The tighter they are, the more susceptible they are to binding due to thickness variation or unevenness.

    Yeah, you can only tighten the skate bearings just so much.

    Hi! bobmagnuson,

    I have a CRP4896 from cncRouterParts since 2012 ..... I'm tired 24 bearings for the Y axis .... I read your post, do you remember where you buy your stocks?
    I contact last week AvidCNC from a conversion with their linears Rail but they can't help me, I have a Old CNC

    So, if you have any links, cad, or anythings, it would be much appreciated !
