Keeping in mind that I'm new to CNC what are some of you fine folks using for CAD and CAM using a Centroid Acorn control card ? Thanks.

Fusion 360. It includes cad and cam. There are Acorn post processors available and it’s all free.

I really plan on anything that comes up in general. It will be on a cnc conversion of an PM940m milling machine. Mostly for making parts for some of my projects Not much art work or any thing like that. General machine shop work.

Then Fusion 360 is probably where I'd look.

Another vote for Fusion 360. I've grown quite fond of integrated CAD/CAM environment.

Another vote for Fusion360. I’ve used two other CAD programs and MadCam and find Fusion360 much easier to learn and use with a less steep learning curve. There are many good online tutorial videos. Check out those done by Lars Christensen and John at NYCCNC.

A little late on this one but I use Fusion 360 for my hobby work. I started using it since it is free and looked pretty powerful. There is a bit of learning curve, but overall I think it is worth it. As a nearly complete novice, the machining options were a little intimidating at first until I figured out that leaving a lot of them at default worked well for me. I do like the ability to design in 3d and create a drawing with dimensions and multiple views in very little time once the model is complete. I also like the integration of the model, drawing, and CAM - change something once and update the rest easily - Dan

P.S. I'm not using an Acorn board, but I am using a Centroid control running their older Linux control software. I use the generic Fanuc post without modification and it works fine for what I have done so far. I have not seen a dedicated post for the Acorn yet - is there one?

Fusion 360 includes a generic Centroid post that works well. It should work with the Acorn. Like you, I run the Linux version. I wish they had a Linux version for the Acorn.
