With all of the wonderful features it seems that VCarve has built into it, I am trying to figure out if it can do a very simple function. I need to engrave with a stick type font as shown below. This is one of many files that I have in dxf file format that I need to cut. Is this to simple for v carve?

Hi Hack,

It should be very simple and straightforward to do this in VCarve Pro (as Switcher has kindly shown) and you can test the process using the Trial version.

Open your DXF design
Ensure the Size, XYZ origins and material thickness are correct
Select the text to engrave
Open the Toolpath Tab on the Right of the interface

If the text is based on single stick / open vectors use the Profile Toolpath

Enter the required Depth to engrave
Select a suitable cutter
Select the option to Machine On the selected lines
Calculate
Preview the toolpath

Once you have calculated one of these toolpaths the settings become the default so engraving other plates gets even easier. Just select the text, create a new Profile toolapth and Calculate.

Use the VCarving / Engraving Toolpath option if the text is based on closed fonts such as true type fonts.

Enter a Flat Depth
Select a cutter from the Tool Database
Calculate
Preview the results

For reference - the next release of VCarve Pro includes a selection of different styles of Engraving Fonts so the design can easily be done inside the software. This is Version 4 and will be available around the start of May.

I attached the file I used from the screenshot in my 1st post.

I used the trial version, so I don't know If you can use it or not. If you can, it will give you an idea how I put things together.

I used an Arial font for all the text, & 3 rectangles (1 rectangle to underline "Caution").

The screenshot below shows the order that I took after I finished my text & 3 rectangles.

Your process will not be the same If you start with an outside DXF file.

Total time was about 5min. with only VCarve Demo.

I saw a tutorial that creates rounded boxes inside V-carve. You have to use the parallel line tool. Construct a parallel line using your box inwards. The distance you choose will become the radius. Now using that smaller box, construct a parallel line outwards with the same dimension. Delete the unnecessary boxes, keeping the rounded corner box.

I just tried it yet, and it worked great.
