Converting .nc file to CamBam freindly file

    Hello all,

I'm using CamBam Plus 0.9.8. so I save my drawings to a CamBam file ( .cb ) and a Gcode file ( .nc ). I use LinuxCNC to run the machine.

By mistake, I erased some link to a .cb file. I mean the file is still there, but it's not complete, so basically I'm unable to open the drawing in Cam Bam. Could there be a way/program I could use to convert the .nc file to .dxf or some other ''image'' file, as long as I can reopen it again with CamBam. It doesn't matter if on the way I was to lose the scale, machining paths or else, I just want to get the drawing back.

I have not succeded to open .nc files with CamBam, Inkscape, or LibreCAD

I also have access to FreeCAD, ArtCam, Solid Work, and Mastercam X5 with little to no experience with these programs. So far I've searched the web and no sign of a solution.

Thank you for your time! and your indulgence since I'm only amateur at CNCing

You can open the .nc file and then right click on the part and select Tool Path to Geometry. Then under File, Export as a DXF.

If CamBam won't open the .nc file, then it may be damaged.

Ah that is pretty cool to know, as it does work with other .nc files. Unfortunately, the specific file I need won't even open in CamBam, neither in LinuxCNC actually ;( It looks like it must be damaged as you said.
Oh well, back to the drawing board

    Thanks Jim

Click Go Advanced, and attach the file to a post and I'll see what I can do with it. You may have to change the extension to txt, can't remember if the forum software will accept a .nc file.

Re: Converting .nc file to CamBam freindly file

Ah I wish I could, but it shows nothing but a blank page in any of the application I usually use to open .nc files and play around with the g-code... damn I think it's cooked! My mistake must be to have deleted a .cb1 or .cb2... that comes along a file if you hit save a second time without changing the name of the file, my guess anyways....
.nc files are indeed invalid files to upload in the forum.

    thanks for the help!

If you have a .cb1 or .cb2 file the folder, then just change the extension to .cb Those are just sequential copies of the .cb file. You might be able to save it.

Perhaps you accidentally saved the .cb file with an .nc extension?
Try making a copy of the file, and changing the extension to .cb

Won't work, I've tried swapping it like you suggested and it says "Root element missing"
