Hitachi Seikis Hightec 40 G setting tools

How about setting tools with out the Q setter? the machine is a Hitachi Seikis Hightec 40 G with a seicos L3 control, tool eye is not working (long beep when put in position) so I want to set the tools off a known diameter and face of part, is there a parameter I have to change when not using the tool eye? I need to know how to set the tools, is there a MX AND MZ like on a fanuc? Please help, thank you

What do you mean long beep? You are touching and backing off the tip sensor correct?

    1. Make sure Machine is in MANUAL Mode (jog or handle)
    2. Zero Return Machine
    3. Index Turret so Tool to be Set is in Cutting Position
    4. Chuck a Part of Known Diameter or Size
    5. Find Diameter of O.D – Use Micrometer (example 2.375”)
    6. Press the F3 Soft Key on CRT (TOOL)
    7. Pick Tool Offset # to Set by Using Arrow Cursor Keys
    8. In Jog Mode, Clear “X” Data Under the Geometry Offset Side (o Input)
    9. Locate Position Data for X and Z Axis (Normally Bottom Right of Screen)
    10. Using the MPG (manual pulse generator), Move Tool to LIGHTLY TOUCH O.D. of Chucked Part
    11. Now Locate “X” Axis Position Display Information from Digital Readout Display on Bottom of CRT
    12. For Example, does “X” Axis Absolute Display show “X” is 4.100 then you would use the following formula:
Machine Thinks Absolute “X” Position is 4.100
We Know O.D of Part (“X”) is 2.375
    Difference 1.725
The Amount 1.725 is out of the Negative (minus value) in the “X” Axis Geometry
    Offset.
Make Sure You are at the Correct Tool Offset, Then Utilizing the Key Pad – enter –1.725 (minus) and Press Input Key.
After this Step, Absolute Position Display should Match Showing the Diameter the Machine Thinks it’s at with the Tool is 2.375 in “X” Axis.
    13. Repeat Steps 5 through 11 to Teach Other Tools.

Re: Hitachi Seikis Hightec 40 G setting tools

Thanks for the reply, yes the tool eye is not working, had a guy out and waiting on parts. so you mean to tell me there is no measure button to touch off on a part? the control seems smart enough to do that, even an old fanuc 0T will do it with a MX MZ , I just dont like punching in the numbers by hand, I guess I could write some kind of macro to set tools, what about setting the "Z" zero when the tool eye is working again? sorry this machine/control is new to me. thanks again for the help

Got the new tool eye on and the guy that put it on said he didnt know how to calibrated it(wow) so I learned how to and how to pick up the part zero the rite way, very easy, I thought this control should be able to do that.
