    New ATC spindle (Yay!)

I ordered and received a kl2200 ATC spindle from automation technologies this past week. I've been wanting to do this for a long time and am very excited. I can't tell you how sick of manually changing tools I am.
I also ordered a vfd, toolholders, 7 sets of collets, a spindle mount, intercooler and pump, relays, solenoids, tool forks, air and water lines and a few other goodies.
That's about all I have for now. I will update my progress adding it to my system and give a review about how it works. Hopefully I can get this setup in the next 30 days but progress may be slow. I'm also sure I'll have a lot of questions.

    Re: New ATC spindle (Yay!)

Okay it's been a while and this is my first progress report. This has turned out to be a large amount of work but I am moving forward pretty quickly now. I had to build a full enclosure for the z axis to hold everything needed to support the spindle.
As of now it is completely wired and capable of Manuel tool changes via a switch on the side of the enclosure. The spindle runs and cuts well so far.

The run-out in the spindle taper is basically 0. It moved the needle on a .0001 inch test indicator a small fraction of .0001 so that is awesome. With a 1/2 inch ground dowel pin mounted in a cheap (30 USD) er 20 tool holder I get less then .0002 TIR 2.2 inches out from the collet. That is on par with the many machining centers I have run over the years.

So far my confidence is high and I'm very pleased with the quality and performance of the spindle. I will try to post pictures of the setup as it is now in the next several days. Also video if I can figure that out.

I do have my first question and it seems like a doozy since I have found nothing concrete to go by after much research.
My vfd is a simphoenix e550 2.2kw unit. I believe it is the same as the sunfar e550. It is capable of 1000 hz but is set at 800 for my spindle. Minimum set at 200. That is 6000-24000 rpm range.
It is working well but I would like faster deceleration for when I get everything going automatically. I purchased and wired a 200watt 50ohm resistor per the Manuel's specification but I do not know what settings in the vfd I need to change to make use of it. The settings f2.02-f2.08 are what I believe I should change but I have no understanding of what the parameters actually mean. If anyone has experience with this and can tell me what to set that would be great.

    Thanks
    Ben

Keep us updated on this. I've been considering one of these at some point.

Thank you for reporting. Myself and many others have interest in the quality and reliability of these cheaper atcs.
