After harvest, avocados are graded according to their origin and shipped to the UK. Upon arrival, the ripe avocado is placed on a tray and sent to a conveyor belt. And then they will be marked with information by a laser. The laser will mark the outside of the avocado with the retailer's logo, the best date to eat, the origin country and the cashier code.
M&S claims that even the skin of the fruit is hit by the intense light, which only causes the fruit’s outermost skin to fall off and fade, will not do damage ro the fruit and can be handled with great precision.
According to the fruit tech expert: "Since all the practices on avocado have been successful, we can extend this laser labeling technology to a wide variety of other fruits and vegetables.
