FAGOR 800 TG Eror 64 when starting spindle in forward direction

We have a Fagor 800 tg control on a kingston lathe. Recently started displaying error 64(emergency) when we try to start spindle motor in forward direction. Can't clear error with RESET. It requires a power cycle to clear the error. Seems to be an internal error--it toggles pin 5 of i/o 1 connector from 21 volts to 0 volts. Spindle motor starts and runs fine in reverse direction. If error 64(emergency stop) is generated by the e-stop switch or the brake pedal it can be cleared by the RESET button. The problem only occurs when trying to start spindle in forward direction. Anyone had this problem with a Fagor 800?
Any schematics for this control available?
    Thanks
    Jeff

Yes the spindle is driven by a VFD. If we put the vfd in local mode it will start in both forward and reverse directions using the buttons on the VFD.
