Power 500W Spindle from 1/5kW VFD

I have a 500W Chinese spindle. No information or nameplate of course. The only specs I have:

    • Working voltage: 48 V DC
    • Power: 500 W
    • Speed: 12000 r/min

I would assume from this that the max current is 10.4A.

Can I control this with a 1.5kW VFD, e.g. Huanyang? What is confusing me is the DC "working voltage".

    Here is the spindle: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ER11-500W...K/232697475814

    Thanks!

You have a ESC that converts DC into 3 phase AC to drive the motor, they 8call* it a 'Brushlesss DC motor' but its actually a 3 phase motor.
R/C modle planes use the same layout.

I am not sure it will work or not ...it depends on a few things.
You need to know all the Input specs for the motor and determine if the VFD paramters can be set to match. If not you won't be able to protect your motor from damge if something is wrong.
Besides motor voltage and current, an important one is the max frequency of the motor. One is not usually this info set these setups.
If you get it wrong you can damge the motor and/or the VFD.
If you had an Oscilliscope you could take some measurements...see what frequency the ESC goes up to?

It may be dangerous ground...not 100% sure.

If you don't have the experience or knowledge, I would probably not proceed.

Why do you want to do this?
Do you want to control the Spindle from Mach 3?

Quite easy to answer your question, No you can't run this motor with a VFD

That is a regular 48v DC motor, it has its own special BLDC control showing in the package
