Ideas about the half plasma half router table seen on TESTED?

I have been looking at this set up for a while and I was wondering if anyone out there had one that could share some pros and cons. Or if anyone can think of issues that having the two in one would cause.

New to the forum, thanks in advance!

Thanks, but right now I'm researching the market looking for some feedback before I dump any money into a machine.

When I visited CNCRP back in 2015 I believe, they had put a steel water “table” on top of a wood CNC and used that for their initial plasma testing so it is definitely viable.

Nasty plasma dust all over your wood parts.
Highly flammable sawdust around when you are plasma cutting..

Very true. I think with a water table for the plasma and a good dust collection setup, this could be avoided. However, the water spray and sparks are a concern.

Maybe reach out to them and see how it has worked out for them?

I would think that the dust issues already mentioned would be problematic.

I asked CNCRP if there was a contact I could talk to who used the machine and they directed me here to ask, so here I am.

From the little that I have read, water tables capture around 98% of the smoke that is produced when plasma cutting as opposed to a downdraft table that captures about 75-80%. Maybe someone with a plasma water table can confirm this?

But again, now you have water on top the waste board so I wonder how often you would need to replace the waste board. The benefit with the half and half machine is that you can remove the water table if you need to use the spindle for a bigger project that needs the full 8 foot. Not very practical, but there if you need it.

I'm curious as to what you decided? I'm also in St Louis & trying to decide on a split table.

I had a PlasmaCam table maybe 15 years ago. Plasma dust all over even with an exhaust fan, some is still on the light fixtures. Sparks, fumes and your handling heavy sheets of steel or stainless and where do you store it? If you really have need for a plasma cutter put it far away from your woodworking. You do have welders, angle grinders, metal saws and the rest... right. A metal Fab shop so to speak.

I have had the table for a little over a year now and I am enjoying it. Had a few hiccups getting going. I have been mostly focused on the plasma side and have only done a few projects on the mill. To reply to the post above, the water table doesnt allow any dust to get out and kills almost all sparks. The only problem then is the water, I havent figured out a good way to keep it from going everywhere starting to rust the linear rails

Very interested in this solution as well. I am currently building my CNC using the Avid kit. Can you put some photos of your set up? Thank you.

I'm in the process of building a 5x10 hybrid plasma/spindle machine. It's been a few months since the last post on this thread. ebrakespin - How is it going and what are some things I should watch out for?

i am also building a 48 x 96 ...using mostly avid cnc parts....they really do have great support......i am thinking of also using it as a plasma cutter occasionally.. i already have a 4x4 cnc plasma cutter...bu i know occasionally ill want to do longer part/peices...my idea is to slide the water pan under neath when i'm not using it...prolly make some kinda shelf system...will also incorporate a pump so the water pan can be emptied and filled easily.
