Hello
I know is might be a dumb question but Can you run 2 Smothstepper ESS at the same time to have more I/O ?????
I seen this video guy made a pretty cool control panel

No, you can't.
But he's using an ESS and a pokeys to handle the additional inputs.
I'm not sure what devices you can use with Mach4, and which ones work together.

How much I/O were you thinking?
You can switch to a UC300ETH which has 2 ports more than the ESS (5 vs 3), and it's cheaper.

I am not sure but to much is better then not enough
I like that UC300ETH but then i guess i will have 2 spare ESS hehe
Thanks Guys
You are right but what is a used ESS worth ?
I may as well keep them in the spare parts box
Hi,
in Mach4 you can only have one active motion controller, so you can have one ESS running at a time.
You can have a second board running as a data input, its just that the ESS is native as a motion controller and will not perform
plain data IO. The Pokeys devices do however. A 57E will provide another 57 IO's including its regular mix of PWM outputs and
analogue inputs. Thus the combined 51 IO's from the ESS and 57 IO's from the 57E for 108 IO's compared to the UC300 85 IO's.
From memory the 57E is about $60.
It is not clear to me you can do this in Mach3, the principle is the same, the ESS as motion controller and the 57E as data IO.

Hi Gerry,
the 57CNC is about $125, it has the same core as the 57E (about $60), but is expanded and optimized as a motion controller.
If motion control is not required then the 57E is more than adequate and of course somewhat cheaper.

He asked what a used ESS is worth.
