I removed the six SHCS from the rear (turret side) spindle cap and the cap rotates just fine about the spindle axis but is resisting my efforts to slide it. Is there a trick to getting this cap off the spindle housing? I'm assuming that trying to force it off with a small pry and any more than moderate force would be a bad idea.

Michael, the spindle cap on the nose of the lathe only comes off if you take out the spindle. I have attached an image of the spindle removed from the lathe. Don't try and pry off the cap.

Thanks for saving me some grief - I apparently mixed up the meaning of front and rear.

Hey Guys. Running my SP today and noticed something. It had started making a ticking and squawking sound - a bit like bearings dying.

So I pull off the end cover and kept running parts - and tried different things - put a trace of silicone grease on the edge of the timimg belt - it looked like it was rubbing on the encoder pulley flange.

That fixed it - it is quiet again now. If you try this dont use more than a trace - you dont want it getting on the main drive belt.
