    HOW DO YOU ADVANCE OKUMA CNC LATHE TAIL STOCK

    Hi there I have an Okuma CNC lathe from 1980s and I don't know how to extend the tailstock on it. I can manually move the entire tailstock but can't extend/advance the tail stock
    can anyone give me some suggestions please? here is a picture of the machine.

    Looks like an older LB15 or 25 ?
    probably OSP5020L control ?

    G & M codes for that era .... so try....
    M55 = Quill Retract
    M56 = Quill Advance

    got this from an OSP 7000L book, also shows the same codes for a P300 control

    There's a screen where you can set it to use the tail stock. It's the same screen that you set ID or OD chucking. I can't remember if it's under settings or parameters. If you can't find it then I can send you more info when I'm at work tomorrow morning.

    Maybe a broken wire to the pedals....
    use the check data page to see if the pedal press is being acknowledged.

    That is correct. If it still doesn't work then go to the back of the machine & turn up the tail stock pressure. There's times on our LB 15 that we have to give the tail stock a good whack before the quill will extend. Let us know how you make out.

    how you doing, genius
    got a problem and hopefully you have a solution for me?

    I noticed I couldn't turn on the spindle anymore (I could single jog it) but I had to turn off what I originally turned on to advance the tail stock eh?

    so what's the deal with this machine? how does this work?? tail stock has to be off before the spindle can start spinning?

    moving the tailstock requires 0 rpm and turret at upper limit (XA+soft limit); both conditions may be ignored by an optional intelock, if available for your machine

    tail stock has to be off before the spindle can start spinning
    try M157 ( also optional maybe ) ... i don't have experience with your machine, so i can't give you exact infos / kindly

    Re: HOW DO YOU ADVANCE OKUMA CNC LATHE TAIL STOCK

    Once the tailstock is activated it has to used (advanced) to run a program. Kind of like trying to run a program without a part in the chuck. As Deadly mentioned there are M codes that can be used to get around that. You would need to use those codes if you wanted to center drill a part & then use the tailstock.
    M156 - Center work interlock off
    M157 - Center work interlock on
    M55 - Tailstock retract
    M56 - Tailstock advance

    if you activate the tailstock
    ... it has to have the advanced acknowedge limit switch conformed (or made) before you can run in full auto.
