With most of the electronics for my router figured out, I am now moving to the design phase of the project. This leads to the question of what router spindle to use for my machine.

I am an experienced woodworker and part time contractor, and have grown up using Porter Cable motors in my dad's shop. He has a 3.5hp fixed base and a 2hp plunge type router, as well as a smaller craftsman model. I have always been very pleased with their results and will probably end up purchasing either a 1.75 or 2.25hp motor with variable speed.

Does anyone have experience with dewalt routers? They seem to be priced less, and I have a great respect for dewalt tools, especially their cordless drills. If they are comparable to porter cable models, I may try one. Without holding the tool, I am unable to make a comparison at this point. Maybe someone who has owned one could describe it in terms of durability, performance, etc.

Thanks!
