    slime in cooling water

Anyone have a way to keep the slime from forming in the cooling system or some way to help minimize it?
I use distilled water or water out of a dehumidifier, same results with ether one.
Added 10 % antifreeze to the water and it helped some but still builds up in the tube and hoses.
Heard R/O water is best but no access to it.
Any type of inline filter found to be practical or another system of some sort that helps?

    thanks

Regular flushes is what ended up working for me. You'll never eliminate it completely without additives like chlorine tablets, but I'd be sure to read up on what sort of operating conditions they are safest in first. Chlorine is nasty stuff to deal with.

    Gerryg thanks for the info.
Changing the water more often is possible but a bit of a pain with my current cooling system. Additives would be a big help but never heard of any but antifreeze. Chlorine is a big no no for me as my shop is very air tight and I use an aluminum radiator cooler for the tube. I don't think alum and chlorine work well together!
Any other additives being used that work ok with the tubes?

    Thanks,
    Rick

I run 50/50 automotive antifreeze, and top off periodically with distilled water. Same coolant in my little X4 for years. Never noticed any issue. Same for my X5s, but they aren't as old.

We use this in our DMG machines with no issues of sliming up:

    Thanks for the reply's
I'll give the 50/50 a try first as it's avail locally and a lot cheaper than the stuff from creative.
I had read that antifreeze can be used but not over 10% without reducing the power output of the tube.
But if it's working for you it's worth a try.

    Thanks,
    Rick
