    1100 to 1100M???

Has any heard about an upgrade kit for a S3 to M status? Or at least the spindle pulleys to get more rpm from my 1100. I already have 2hp and 11" of Y.

Is there one? I thought it was already said there was too many changes to have an upgrade path (though there will be from M to MX and possible beyond...)

I’m still running my 1100 Series 2 on Mach 3 and it does “everything” I ask it to do.

I’ve said before, my Tormach will do anything you can do on a Haas or any of those other high dollar machines, it’s just gonna take a little longer and my Tormach didn’t cost $75,000.00.

The upgrade path for a Tormach PCNC 1100 series 1, 2, or 3 to the PCNC 1100M or 1100MX series consists of selling your existing Tormach mill and buying a newer one since there are way too many changes between those two series.

    Re: 1100 to 1100M???

I asked Tormach about an upgrade path when the M series was announced. At that time, the plan was to make a partial upgrade with closed-loop motion (servo conversion). Sounded very much like the bipolar to 3-phase stepper upgrade. There was no plan to upgrade the spindle. Tormach said that they were a year away from offering any upgrade.

Spindle bearings on the 1100 are spec'd for more rpm than currently used (I think it was 10K rpm). A shop mod to change pulley ratios is certainly possible, within reason.

A closed loop motion control might be worth it, for some users, on the old platform. My take is that the M series is a qualitatively different machine, and an attempt to upgrade will simply miss too many features.

The bigger question seems to me to be whether the M series has hit a sweet spot as the original 1100 did. Tormach thinks so.

Out of curiosity, how did you increase the travel and up the HP on your S3?

Motor swap, New VFD to match, it's been described on here by someone else. Found a longer ball screw nut unit, I had 10"+ before the swap, just moved the stop to get all the available travel. This seems to vary from machine to machine. Had to modify the front bellows mount with a spacer. There is plenty of way support.

When asking about a upgrading a Series 3 to a 1100M spindle, I was told the spindles were different cartridges and the head castings were different.

Maybe its 'possible' if you replace the head of the mill, but I can't imagine the headache that would cause their tech support.

Is there any pdf, doc file instruction about it? It must look like this https://au.edubirdie.com/do-my-assignment. I really need it for my business services. We are writing educational materials.
