Anybody knows why some books says G73 is contour turning, while others say G73 is for drilling. If this G73 code is for contour turning, can you please explain its parameters?..
Thanks

What make and model of machine and control are you using?
G83 is for Z axis drilling, G73 is repeat pattern. it follows the same path every cycle and applies a new wear offset every time. this would be used when you have parts that are the same shape, just slightly different sizes. I use these on my 0i Control
I normally use G71 for conture turning........
G83 looks like a drilling cycle for live tooling.
But yes........G73 is for roughing a conture turning
G83 is a deep hole drilling cycle where the drill returns out of the hole to the "R" position to clear the chips.G73 is a pattern repeat cycle and i think from memory "G74" is a drilling cycle not G73.
I would rather be riding my harley!!!
you can use G73 as a drilling cycle just omit the x move. It pecks without moving out to the r plane every peck, it moves out only the amount in the parameter for G73 clearance.
