Thumbs up Filthy machine Trotec Speedy 300

I recently "inherited" a Trotec Speedy 300 that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in 8 years. The dust inside is caked on so thick that I had to scrub with a vengeance to clean a small portion of it off (using plain water and a microfiber cloth...and gloves and dust mask, of course). I am concentrating right now on just cleaning the soot/dust off the metal inside the machine. The rep from Trotec on the phone mentioned a magic eraser. Is this safe? A professional service call is out of the question.

This is my first experience with a machine like this so any helpful advice is appreciated.

A magic eraser should work fine. I use them to clean my golf shoes, and they don't damage the leather. So, they should be safe on painted metal. (and most anything else)
