    How do you machine soft jaws for 1/2" or less diameter parts?

    hi
    how do you make soft jaws for chucking 1/2" rods on CNC lathe?
    i have a 8" chuck and i have steel jaws that i want to either machine or re-machine for .5" or .3125" rods and i also have a boring ring. can someone post how to do instructions please ?

    Why not use a collet?
    If you don't have a ring clamp you can make rings out of tubing. Cut face groove in the face of the jaws for the ring to fit. Insert ring, clamp jaws lightly. Cut jaws.
    Now YOU know.

    No one uses soft jaws for such small diameter parts. You need to invest in a collet chuck and some collets.
