    Dust collection mod question

I purchased harbor freight 2hp dust collector, Weinn industries filter and a super dust deputy to do the mod that everyone seems to be doing on YouTube & everything seems to be going ok but my issue is this.

My building that the router is in has a low ceiling and once the weinn filter is installed with the filter inlet in line with the exhaust port of the dust collection motor it will need to be removed everytime the drum needs emptied.

Does the inlet need to be in a straight line with the exhaust? If I raise it up to the ceiling I could get the drum out without removing the weinn filter.

    Thank you
    Gary

    Re: Dust collection mod question

Normally the blower/motor system can be located anywhere, so you could have it located to the side of the cyclone and connected with an elbow, so any plumbing that would get it out of the way would work. But keep in mind that each elbow slightly reduces the system airflow.

Jim, ok thank you. I'm going to see how far out of the way I can get the filter.

    Thanks again

You can put the filter anywhere, but the straighter the better. Try to avoid 90° bends.
People do what's known as the "Stovepipe Mod" to reduce restriction between the blower and filter.

Gerry - Thank you I'll use the stovepipe mod. Even if it doesnt get the filter out of the way enough to keep me from having to remove the filter it seems to make a big difference in performance.

    Thanks again
