Arrow linux cnc 4 axis machine definition / post problem... bad chjaracter "A" used

Hello. Thanks for looking at my problem.
    linux 2.4.5
I'm using a smithy sherline cnc. Bobcad v31 4 axis.
I have the correct bobcad post processor (I think) but when I try to load the gcode file onto my machine I get the error.
    line 21...file name/ bad character "a" used.

The file will not even load onto the machine.
    I think that A axis is :
not defined in linux on machine.
    or
controller can't read 4 decimal digits for a rotary axis

I have looked at the hal configuration and A axis there under parameters.
Do you have to enable A axis in linux ? If so where?

    Thanks
    jc

The number of trailing digits after the decimal shouldn't matter or at at least it doesn't on my machine.

It's configured in INI and HAL. If you used stepconf this should have been done for you.
If you use the AXIS interface do X Y Z & A all appear in the coordinate readouts ?
Anyone who says "It only goes together one way" has no imagination.

Version 2.4 is pretty old. Current version is 2.7.
Does the A axis appear in your GUI?
