Hello; Anyone know what im missing here? I just powered up the newest addition to my shop, a 2004 TM1 mill and the spindle will not go over 750 rpm in manual mode.
HAAS controls are new to me, I cant find anything in the manual about this. Do I need to initiate a gear change or does that happen automatically?

Also, this mill has a safety switch, like a "deadman switch" that the manual says has to be held down anytime the machine is in auto mode. Is this some kind of joke (lol)? Seriously, I surely dont have to stand there holding a switch for a half hour to run a half hour program, do I?

On a more general note, is there someone out there with experience on a similar vintage TM1 that I could PM with some questions? I would very much appreciate it.

Ok, I will update my own post;It turns out the safety switch is responsible for limiting the rpms. I discovered this by accident. The manual clearly says letting go of the switch stops the spindle, but for some reason not on this one.
Also, i stumbled across an old thread discussing these safety switches and various strategies for dealing with this ridiculously limiting device. I suppose I understand the safety/ liability issue with an unguarded machine, but this switch debacle is not a realistic solution!!

we upgraded it with a self made enclosure and also speeded up the spindle speed to 6000rpm.

Have you tried the key on the side of the control panel?

About the "deadman" switch there are some steps you most follw to "skip" this:
1. After you start the machine, you have to send it to home by hit the "power up" button.
2. After the three axes had arrived to zero, you have to hit the "Settings" button
3. Introduce the number"51" using the keyboard
4. Hit the "down" arrow. This will take you to the settings display, with the setting 51 selected.
5. Hit the "left" arroy. With this, te value of the setting 51 becomes to "on"
6. Hit the "enter" button.
7. The "deadman" switch has become overrided.
