    Mori MV-40w/Fanuc 16m

    Help Mori Guys !!!

    We have a new-to-us (90's-vintage) Mori MV-40B with MF-M4 (Fanuc 16M) control. It is equipped with a spindle oil chiller that alarms every
    10 minutes. (The thermal overload inside the chiller unit for the compressor trips indicating the compressor is failing.) Initially we will be running low rpm
    spindle jobs (sub 3K rpm) so we can live without the chiller at least in the short term. We'd like to disable the chiller via PC parameter.
    However, the list is all in Japanese so we can't tell if there actually is a PC parameter that defines the Use/Non-use of the chiller like
    most mtb's give you.

    Is the chiller function only to cool the headstock to reduce thermal growth or does it lubricate a gearbox too?

    Can someone (Underthetire? Where he at !?) advise if this possible and what PC parameter we'd need to disable?

    Please advise.

    I would jumper over the thermal over load in the chiller or alarm line back to the control and also disconnect the compressor. We have a 4 year old nlx1500 here that the daikin chiller is giving low refrigerant alarms. I did this and monitored temps and saw zero change. It still circulates the oil just doesnt control its temp.
    On this lathe its purpose is to controls temps, equalizes the headstocks to the bed and slides. On the older mills it cools the gearbox lube. Im not sure about your vintage machine.
    I know on a SH403 it just circulates oil around the integral motor spindle.

    We jumped the 24NC to OCAL terminals inside the spindle oil cooler thinking it would disable the alarm signal from a tripped thermal overload &
    allow us to run with the chiller essentially disconnected. But it had the unexpected effect of causing the heat exchanger fan to come on and the
    compressor to run much cooler.

    We ran the spindle up to 5K for 10-15 minutes with zero thermal tripping. Still need to confirm that the oil cooler does not actually lubricate anything
    and is only to control thermal growth of the headstock.

    But we're good for now !
