    idlers and shaft support

I'm wondering if supporting both sides of a shaft is the best way to go or if using an idler bolt or relying on the motor bearings better. It seems that unsupported idlers are very common in 3d printers and on drive pulleys for belt reduction on cnc machines. Is cost the main reason the shaft is supported on only one side?

    Re: idlers and shaft support

Usually supporting a pulley shaft from both sides traps the belt, making service a pain.
