Choosing correct clamping nut for MM-1000 spindle

    Hi,
    I've got a Stepcraft machine and a MM-1000 spindle.

I have the clamping nut that came with the spindle, which has a neck of 15mm and a hexagonal top part of 5mm, 20mm total.
    You can see it here

I want to buy an additional clamping nut so that I don't have to change collets when I want to change toolbits. I found this one here for example...

Is it okay to use it, even though the neck might be less than 15mm?
Can you recommend a good one and where to buy it so that it is safe to use with the MM-1000?

    Thank you

    Hi,
Yes I obviously looked at that, but the parts from stepcraft have an outrageously high shipping cost to where I am... that's why I am looking for alternatives, either amazon or ebay.

What I'd like to find out, is if it's correct and safe to use a short necked clamping nut for the MM-1000? One which is like the ebay link I posted in the original post.

    Thanks.

I don't think so. It looks like the MM-1000 is a Kress spinde, so you'd need Kress collet nuts. ER nuts will not work.

Can I use ER20 collets with the Kress nut?

What's important is that the nut fits the spindle, right?

    What about this nut?

No. The collets need to match the taper ground into the spindle, and the nut needs to be made for the collets.

Both the collet and nut must be the proper type for your spindle. It's likely a special type designed by Kress.
