What is the proper way to align a BOT tool holder to the spindle?

    Solved:

I have a new ST15 which is a huge upgrade from my last lathe.
My question is how do you properly align a BOT tool holder to the spindle.
I have a Haimer Centro coaxial indicator and I am not sure if I should be indicating at the front of the ID (nearest the spindle) or possibly halfway down the interior of the ID.
My gut says it should be the front portion of the ID that is the closest to the spindle since this is where the lip of the sleeve reducer will seat.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I am not familiar with the Haas lathes. Most other manufacturers provide keys or reference edges of some type to align the toolholder square to the turret/spindle centerline.

The tool holder is square to the spindle. Haas has a method for that.
My question is where is the best place on the ID of the BOT holder to do the coaxial measurement.

The BOT holder can be square to the spindle (which it is), but that does not mean that the ID of the holder is coaxial with the center line of the spindle.

The holder has a 3.5" long bore that is 1" diameter. So should I measure halfway down the bore, or as my gut tells me near the face of the bore.

    Thanks!

If everything Is as it should be, it wouldnt matter. If the holders bore is true to the ref edge , and the holder true to the spindle- then it should be the same all the way through. That is as critical as being on center.

Are these holders adjustable or something? When it gets down to it what matters it the cutting tool. No matter how close the block is.Here we tram tools that cut on center, like drills and reamers and such. Thats a part of every setup.
