Side frames have shear panels with anchors and carbon fiber reinforced epoxy inside the extrusion slots. They are structurally rigid single pieces.

@DavidA, where did you source your HDPE from and did it come pre-cut in that shape?

    Adam,

Most plastic distributors should have HDPE. McMaster-Carr carries them as well.
Up to 4" thick. They come in sheets, just like plywood. You machine the shape you want.

    BED AND TABLE

Bed is a 2x3 aluminum sheet and 1515 stringers. All holes for assembly are pre-machined:
    Attachment 411268

    Install stringers:
    Attachment 411270

Various 1" HDPE parts will be attached to the bed sheet. Spread out an even coat of open gear grease to all the mating surfaces of the HDPE pieces. Make sure all mating surfaces are covered:
    Attachment 411272

    Attachment 411274

Install the pieces, making sure grease is squeezed out a bit:
    Attachment 411276

    Attachment 411278

Looking good. As with others of this design...how's the side load stiffness?

Re: David A's New 2x3 Bench Top CNC

    Thank you fretman_2.

It feels stout so far. I think the epoxy embedment along the full perimeter of the shear plate makes the side panels quite twist resistant. There are three 3030 cross beams connecting the side panels with large corner brackets. One of them is not visible behind the gantry. See attached pic. So far I didn't see a need for them but larger flat brackets could be added to front and back if necessary.

Btw, how do you make the posted pictures show up larger? They all end up posted as smallish thumbnails but are at the 1025 pix and 500kB limit?
I tried it both as attachment and as image but no difference. Thanks.

To finish the assembly of the main frame, plastic trim needs to be installed as shown:
