    TC22 from BT40 to CT40

On the Bridgeport Torq Cut 22 machines, to switch over to CT40 tooling, is it just a matter of changing out the Carousel grippers to CT40 grippers?

You also have to change the tool change height. You need a different pull stud for the ct40 also.

    Thanks, that part seems trivial.

If you buy all 22 segments from EMI, they're around $25 each.

What pull studs does the TC22 use for CAT40? Is there a drawing out there somewhere or mfg. and part number?

    Is this it?
Also, to be sure the spindle can accomodate both, BT40 and CT40, the only difference in the change over is the pull stud and change out the grippers in the carousel?
I just got a nice deal on a bunch of CT40 tool holders locally. I didn't have any tool holders yet. The deal was good enough for me to change out the grippers, I would have needed the pull studs anyway.

No, that is not it. It looks just like the. but it has 5/8 11 threads on it. It is also shorter then the BT pull stud. I will get you a picture and dimensions when I get home this evening.

Yes. Dimensions C will be shorter for the CT tool holder.

This is the closest I found, overall length is a bit shorter as well.

    Thank you!

I'll wait until you get home. I sent an email to EMI as well.
Don't want to mess this up.
    Thank you!

    Re: TC22 from BT40 to CT40

Here is what Aaron at EMI said about swapping from BT40 to CT40:

"There is way more involved in that. We have had our serviceman do a swap once and between parts and labor (you need a service man very familiar with this tool changer setup) it was well over a $6000.00 event and this was in 2010. That is not a project we would recommend taking on. In fact, you can buy a used Bridgeport machining center ready for CT tooling for the cost of what it would take to change from BT to CT."

Any news on the dimensions Cooperjm and the statement from EMI? I can't see why it wouldn't work other than the threads for the CT40 tool holder the dimensions are otherwise the same?
    Thanks

I just spent 30 minutes looking for those to pull studs that I have. I cannot locate them at this time. I do apologize.

If you go look up the taper length 4bt 40 compared to a cat 40 that different should be similar to the difference in the pool stud length.

I know Aaron and Mark a EMI. I believe that they have experience with this that I do not. I do know that I put a cat 40 with a short stud and my spindle. I cannot guarantee what the drawbar pressure was though.

I'm confused. So you did do this conversion or not?
Is the pull stud the same as the BT40 with the exception that it has the 5/8"-11 thread?
