Ref all home will not zero out

    Hello everyone,

I’m trying to zero out my machine coord’s button, but no matter what I try the values will not zero out. I’ve scoured the forums looking for someone that has had the same issue, but haven’t seen one yet. I’ve followed Vince’s (corvetteguy) YouTube video and when he hits the ref all home button his values reset to zero and the X, Y, Z buttons light up green. My machine starts to move the Z in the negative direction and I’m forced to abort (destroyed my spoilboard the first time). I do have limit/home switches that came installed with the machine.

Any suggestions on what I need to do or try?

    Thanks,

    Anton

They won't zero until the switches are tripped. If the machine is homing in the wrong direction, toggle the "Home Negative" setting in Config > Homing/Limits.

Okay that worked thank you! The machine moved to the front left (standing in front of the machine) with the Z moving to the top of the tower and the boxes turned green for X,Y,Z. I then loaded the roadrunner and moved the workpiece somewhere near the middle of the table. I zeroed the coordinates in the lower left of the workpiece. As a test, I moved the gantry away from the workpiece 0,0,0 and clicked the go to zero button thinking the gantry would move back to the workpiece 0,0,0. Instead the Z moved to the top of the tower and tripped the limit/home switch. Am I incorrect in thinking the go to zero button should move back to the workpiece 0,0,0 I set?

Check your Config >Safe Z settings.
It will go to Safe Z first if enabled.

Both of the safe Z options were checked. When I unchecked both and tested the go to zero button, the Z moved to the top of the tower and reached the soft limit (I’m assuming this as Mach 3 didn’t throw an error) then after about 5 seconds the X and Y moved to the correct work 0,0 but Z went past what work Z was set to and reached the max soft limit and stopped. What is the correct function for go to zero and when should I be using it? And should I be seeing a delay when go to zero is pressed?

I have no program/g-code loaded if that matters.

Can you post a pic of your Safe Z settings?
With Safe Z enabled, it will do a Safe Z move first. With Safe Z disabled, it will move to X0Y0, then Z0.

Personally I have Safe Z set to use Machine Coordinates, and have it set 1" below the home switch.
    I never use Goto Zero.

If you are not using the parallel port, then motion controllers may have an effect on how Goto Zero functions. Not sure, though.

Re: Ref all home will not zero out

I’m using the XHC MKX-IV usb controller. Okay, the go to home and work go to zero seems to be working good now, but I had to go back and use the default Mach 3 mill machine profile that the vendor set up. I tried to set up a fresh profile y checking the default settings checkbox when you clone from and name your new profile. As I was going through the the set up for the e stop button I got the 8877 error and Mach would crash. When I would restart Mach I would have about 10 seconds before it crashed. The strange thing is if I use the default machine profile or a copy of that machine profile WITHOUT checking he default settings box, I get no 8877 error.
