Hi guys,

I have a pretty quick question. MESA has a large number of offerings - what are the best hardware options for running AC servos with LinuxCNC? Also, is there a performance difference between the ethernet and PCIe offerings? I haven't chosen the 1kw servos/drivers yet, so I could be flexible in that regard.

What type of machine are you driving?

It's a Novakon Pulsar, but I'm getting servos on it. I haven't decided which servos/drives to use. It'll be 4 axis, but I'm hoping for some room for expansions in the future.

Are there general pros/cons between PCIe and ethernet main cards? Also, what about the 50 pin vs DB25 vs serial daughter cards in general?

If this is for PathPilot I'm not sure what hardware is compatible other than 5I25/6I25 and 7I92.
you have a wide range of 25 pin daughterboard types available for these

If this is for LInuxCNC, I would probably chose a 7I96 if 11 4-36VDC inputs and 6 0-36VDC 2A outputs is sufficient.
(these are in addition to the 5 axis of step/dir, 1 channel quadrature encoder input and serial + parallel expansion)

There is no significant difference in PCI/PCIE/Ethernet performance. Ethernet has the advantage of allowing the PC to be
any practical distance from the control electronics and provides electrical isolation. Ethernet also allows use of small PCs with no slots

Thanks! This will be for LinuxCNC. Is their a performance difference between the serial and parallel daughterboards? For instance, will the 7I94 loaded with 7I83s operate differently than say a 7I80DB/7I77?

I refitted a Denford NovaTurn to Yaskawa 100W AC Servos.
The system is using +-10V in Torque mode.
