I am finally getting around to setting my machine up. It is a 6040 from CNCEST, it is USB, and I am using Mach3. First, I installed and set up my limit switches, all in series and normally closed, and they worked good. When I hit the Ref All Home button, it would home the Z axis, then the Y, and then the X. After homing, the switches then worked as limit switches. After spending a week or so getting everything else set up, just when I thought I was ready to start cutting, when I now hit the Ref All Home button, instead of taking the Z axis home, the Y axis drives all the way to the back, hitting the switch, and instead of acting as a home switch, it acts as a limit switch, and stops everything until I physically move it off of the switch and hit reset. I looked at the script for the Ref All Home button, and it was as it should be. What would cause this, and what can I do to fix it.

Try replacing the .xml file with a known good backup.

Thanks Gerry, but unfortunately making a copy of my .xml file was the next thing on my list after making sure all of my settings were working properly. Is there any thing I should look for in my current .xml file that might need changing? I hate to modify it, but I guess if the .xml file is corrupted, then it is either fix the file, or start over from scratch with Mach3. By the way, since I have not yet run my machine, I am still using the demo version that came with my machine. Since I am using a USB controller, would I maybe be better off buying a copy of Mach4 instead of Mach3?

Mach3 automatically backs up the .xml. Look in the \Mach3\xmlbackup folder. You need to rename the extension to .xml.


Depends on which USB controller you are using.

Before you try to ref all home check you diagnostic screen and make sure the switches are not all ready active
if you have a active switch it will send the first homing axis in the wrong direction
I think you may have a Logic problem with switch states between (home state and limit state)
I found it easier and better to have separate switches for home and limit
