Question Help with the dust hood from K2 CNC

When I am cutting and the router changes directions. The plastic lifts the router a bit and then the cut isnt exact. The plastic is really stiff.

Any suggestions on what to do?

I am using this mount for my Hitachi Router:

And this for the dust collector:

    Thanks

Yes, contact K2 and tell them of the problem. I got a 3925 from them just 3 months ago and it uses strip brushes around the collector base instead of plastic. The brushes are real flexible and don't cause any problem at all. Maybe they still have some of the older design left. Tell them you are very unhappy with the design and you want brushes. They won't change back if they don't get negative feedback.

    Good luck,

    Charlie

be sure to position the dust hood so the plastic touches just enough to touch the top of the material at your cutting depth. Double check to make sure your router is secured tightly, but it is true that the brushes are much more flexible.

    stiff dust shield

I don't have a K2. I am dreaming of one though. I have a home built router of the 25 x 39 size. My brushes would keep the z from being accurate on the initial cut until the unit moved horizontally and the brushes bent. I made the holes holding the brushes slotted so they can move up and down about a 1/4 inch. I haven't had any more problems since. I wonder if the same idea would work with the plastic curtain.

I got them from McMaster Carr. I bought the brushes and holders. I believe I got the 3 inch brush size.

They are called conveyor strip brushes.

The part number I bought was

brush Nylon bristles galvanized steel backing 3 feet 74405T72
Strip brush holder anodized aluminum 3 feet 8813T12

go to mcmaster.com type in the part number in the search and it will bring up the page with the brushes and holder.

Hi studysession, what ever happened with your K2?
