Buying NEW VFD for 2.2KW Spindle (OLD VFD died)

Ok, this morning my VFD died. YL600-2s-2k20 for 2.2KW spindle. This was bought from a company that said it was able to use 110V. No smoke, no pop, just the slow winding down of the spindle. The display on the VFD had something on it (CN????) but before I could read it, the display went off. Powering off/on did nothing. Connections look good. Power is there. One tiny LED D12 is on, that is all.

I've had the VFD for about two years.

So, that brings me to now. I'm looking at some VFDs on Amazon and am looking at 220v models such as:(VFD 220V 3.0KW 4hp Variable Frequency Drive CNC VFD Motor Drive Inverter Converter for Spindle Motor Speed Control HUANYANG HY-Series(3KW, 220V))

or should I step up to the 4.0KW 5.5 HP?

    Any suggestions?
If you have a similar setup, I'd like to hear from you as well.
    Thanks!

Why where you using 120v it's not the voltage that normally kills a VFD it have the wrong Parameters set that does them some serious damage

You have to know the spec's for the VFD model there are some that can run on 120v but those that are any good for a 2.2Kw spindle will be 220v/240v

3kw would be good for the 2.2Kw spindle

Thank you for the quick response.

Well, at the time I didn't have a 220v outlet in the shop and since the company I bought my spindle from had a 110v VFD controller for a 2.2KW spindle I went that route. They also posted the parameters that need to be set in order to use the VFD with that spindle.
Can we post links on the forum?
    Again, thanks.

Do you have any good or bad comments about this VFD?

I'm thinking about that 220v VFD, then I would need a 220v spindle?

    @milo30
Mind if I ask what spindle are you using and are you using mach3?
    Thanks

Did you get the spindle off Amazon or eBAY?

That is a low cost VFD and will work very well, a word of caution the wiring has to be correct, and Parameters have to be set correct or the same thing can happen

What is wrong with the spindle you have, just test the UVW and Ground pin to see if it is ok

    Pin1 to Pin2=
    Pin2 to Pin3=
    Pin3 to Pin1=

And Pin 4 to the Spindle Body most are not connected and this will have to be corrected like photo

Yeah, I checked the resistance between the wires of the coils and got something like 1.1 ohms between them. To ground it was open.

You had asked me earlier about why i had a 110v VFD and that got me to thinking about putting a 220v outlet in and getting a 220v VFD. That would mean I would have to get a 220v spindle.
I was looking at this VFD and Spindle:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...RHIIBHYY&psc=1
    What do you think?
I'm asking the seller to tell me the setting I need to change and will come back here and post them and see if anyone can vouch for them being correct.

At over $400.00 thats a big drop in the bucket, but what else was I going to use that money for, food?
    Thanks.

Is the 220V 4.4KW GT version worth the extra $50.00 or should I just stick with the 220v 3KW HY version?
The GT version could draw around 20 amps, while the HY could draw 13. Any comments?

How did you figure out that there is a difference in amps, look at the input current ( amps ) requirement not the output, the input requirement will be roughly double the output current ( Amps ) required

No the GT is to big for a 2.2Kw spindle and there would be no benefit as auto tuning will not work for a spindle motor that is smaller than it's rated size, so the 3Kw is the ideal size for your 2.2Kw spindle

Yes your spindle Voltage needs to match the VFD input Voltage

The seller will not be able to give you the correct Parameters, unless he has copied what I have already posted

I have any Parameter's you need you just have to decide on what VFD Drive and Spindle you are going to use and be wired and ready to use the Parameters and I will post them here for you

Don't turn on the Spindle unless you have the Correct Parameters set or the same thing will happen, most VFD Drives that are damaged are from wiring or incorrect Parameters set

From the seller's webpage, can't find a manual, the Output current is 13 amps. So this thing is going to draw roughly 26 amps?

Correct a 240v 25A to 30A single phase circuit is what you should am for which would be for your whole machine

Ok, before I break out the credit card...
Here are the VFD and Spindle motor I am thinking about getting.

    VFD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...RHIIBHYY&psc=1
    Spindle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...RHIIBHYY&psc=1
If you have anymore suggestions or advice please let me know.

    I can install a dedicated 220 V, 30 amp outlet.
I'm not too worried about the water cooling as I already have that set up. I will install a flow indicator/alarm or auto shutoff.

Hopefully I haven't been a nuisance and you can help me with the programming.
Again, thanks for all your help.

No problem at all we are here to help

Both look ok, except for one thing that stands out is the 5A rating for the spindle, I think that is incorrect that would be for a 380v spindle 220v spindle normally is 8A to 9A or close to it

The VFD is a normal HY VFD and will work well
