Im looking to buy a new cnc router with a 48"x48" cutting area. This machine is going to be used to cut custom signs from wood mostly, and other woodworking projects.

So I was looking at Cancam Routers model B1-44m. It seems to be a well built machine. The only thing is the fact that the use x and y ballscrews rather than r&p. All linear motion is hiwin rails, which is good, but the motors and drives are Yako which dont know much about. ALso they said theres only a single motor on the y axis(gantry).

Im wondering if anyone knows of another manufacturer in Canada or the quality of the machine at question. I was given a price of $12,500 CAD plus shipping and taxes. I cant justify paying much more than that as a startup. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

AXYZ are Canadan,but I don't claim any familiarity with their range of machines.A bit of Googling might help you to learn whether they have anything suitable.

I 'm guessing the CanCam is a chinese import.
Anything actually made in Canada will likely be well over your budget.

The machine is assembled in Canada. A large part of it comes from cnc. But it isn't a re-branded machine chinese machine.

Maybe someone with a better idea of the structure of the machine, could tell me if this machine do what i'm going to expect of it. Also the next option to this machine would be a cnc router parts crp4848. But there would be some import details i would have to figure out with that machine.

The Cancam flaws that i see are the fact that it has ballscrews on the x and y and it only has 1 ballscrew and motor on the y axis. But it has a steel table with a cast aluminum gantry and has hiwin linear rails.

The cnc is going to be used to start a small single man custom sign and furniture products, but mainly signs.

Do anyone think that this machine is capable of that and also if the crp4848 is a more capable machine?

Imo, ballscrews are far superior to the rack and pinion system used on a CNCRP machine.

That's steel frame, not steel table. The table appears to be plastic.

Based on the specs, it seems capable enough. But without seeing it in person, it's hard to say.

They are offering 1 year warranty and stock parts. Do you think only having a single motor to drive the gantry back and forth, could it cause accuracy or binding issues. Also the Cancam ships with a vacuum table ready if you buy the pump. Its assembled other than the legs and doesn't need a standalone pc. The cncrp needs to be assembled and calibrated and a lighter machine. Also the cnc router parts pro4848 is going to cost about $3000 more for me. If the canadian dollar was at a better place, it could be the cheaper option, but thats not an option, lol.

Would you think based off specs that the cancam machine would be a more rigid machine, and its actually going to cost less, so the better option? Also the parts are closer and available.

Without seeing one in person, I can't answer any of those questions.
